Nacido en Enix, Almer\u00eda, destac\u00f3 como dramaturgo en el Madrid de los a\u00f1os 50, pero la modernidad y libertad de su obra lo llevaron a ser censurado hasta empujarlo al exilio. En Francia se convirti\u00f3 en uno de los autores m\u00e1s le\u00eddos por el p\u00fablico y reconocidos por la cr\u00edtica, siendo finalista al premio Goncourt en seis ocasiones. G\u00f3mez Arcos eligi\u00f3 la lengua francesa para no callar y mantener viva la memoria de los vencidos por el r\u00e9gimen franquista.
